Estate of Mathilda Brueckner Neels
Edna Hoffman Bowman preserved a number of family papers, including this copy of the Probate petition for Mathilda Brueckner Neels. Mathilda was the daughter of Edward Brueckner and Louisa Gassman of Stephenson county Illinois. She was married in 1895 to Henry Neels and they were residents of Waddams township in Stephenson county Illinois. There is no record of children which is likely the reason that her estate was left to her many cousins, nieces and nephews. This document provides an excellent record of family members living in 1961. Nothing further is known about the Kunkenrenken legatees.

Your petitioner, Edith Goehring, respectfully states:
1. That Mathilda Neels, a resident of Freeport, in the County of Stephenson and State of Illinois, died on the 8th day of January 1961 at Freeport, Illinois, leaving a will duly signed and attested, which your petitioner now presents to Your Honor for probate.
2. That the approximate value of the real and personal estate of the testator in this State is as follows:
Personal estate not to exceed in value $6000.00.
