Our German Ancestors: Family Briefs

Below you will find brief notes on a few of the families that intermarried with the Hoffmans, Biesemeiers, Gassmans and Rosenstiels. These are not defined genealogies. They are primarily census records and a few tidbits found on the internet. Hopefully they may provide some assistance to researchers on these families.

Staderman

The Emmert Gassman Photo Album includes pictures of Louise Staderman who was born about 1877, her sister Matilda Staderman who married Conrad Prasse and their mother Henrietta Hainke Staderman. The 1880 census record below probably represents this Staderman family. It is likely that the Eliza Staderman, age 5, is actually Louise Staderman.

Leweke

Photos of Cord Leweke and his brother William Leweke appear in the Emmert Gassman Photo Album. Census records suggest that Cord and William Leweke were the sons of Cord Leweke Sr who was born about 1830 in Lippe Detmold Germany. Cord Leweke Sr may have been the son of Henry Leweke who appears in the 1870 Census of Erin township Stephenson county Illinois, living with his son Frederick Leweke. This is not certain.

Cord Leweke married Flora Gassman on the 28th of March 1895 in Stephenson county Illinois. His brother, William Leweke, married Sophia Bier.
