    Edward Hancock was born about 1808, in the state of Maryland. It was probably as a boy that he moved with his family from Virginia to Kentucky . . . The 1850 Census of Scott county Kentucky shows Edward Hancock, age forty-two, as a wagon maker . . .

      Research Notes of Lora Redman Lockhart:
      Edward Hancock was born 12 August 1808 and died 4 February 1867. He married Jemima White who was born 17 March 1813 and died 18 June 1884. They were married on 12 October 1830. According to the 1850 Scott county Kentucky census Edward Hancock was born in Maryland and Jemima White was born in Kentucky. Also in the household is Leah Hancock, age 70 who was born in Maryland. No stones have been found but the family believe they are buried in the Black Cemetery in Daviess county Missouri near Boston Mountain and Victoria Missouri. Edward Hancock brought his family by way of Liberty Landing about 1851 to Kansas City area about 1854 where he conducted a carpenter shop. Edward Hancock came from a long line of craftmen, skilled in carpentry and the building trades. Many of his sons and grandson followed after in the carpentry trade. Records covering the period from 1834 to 1852 are in the possession of the family when they lived and worked in Scott county Kentucky. Edward Hancock and Jemima White were the parents of nine children - Margaret Hancock, William Hancock, George L Hancock, Leah Hancock, Edward W Hancock, Sarah Hancock, Richard White Hancock, Daniel Hancock and Jemima L Hancock. George, Leah and Daniel died in childhood.

      Edward Hancock and Jemima White came to Missouri by boat and landed at Liberty Landing, which is north of Independence Missouri. They traveled north along the high ground and settled in Daviess County in what was then Old Victoria.
