  • Notes
    • Nancy Lavinia Strother Edmonston, daughter of Bazil Brooke Edmonston Jr and Joanna McDonald, was born 30 May 1829 in Dubois Co, IN on the banks of White River before Jasper was laid out as a town. She was married in Jasper 7 Oct 1847 to James Green. James Green died about 1853. Their son John Green became a grocer in Quincy, IL and John's wife Kathryn died there in 1877. Second son of Nancy and James, Bazil Lon Green was the teacher in charge of the new Jasper schoolhouse completed on 27 Jan 1873. He married Theresa H. Pfaff on 6 Aug 1876. From Goodspeed's History of Pike and Dubois Counties we learn that Lon Green was raised by his grandfather Bazil Brooke Edmonston Sr, receiving a fair literary education, and attended State University at Bloomington for two years. At age 22 he began serving as deputy clerk under his grandfather, serving five or six years and continuing under Gossman. He was a Democrat and a Mason, his wife a member of the Catholic Church. Bazil Lon Green died 6 Aug 1885. Their third son, James Wesley Green, died 20 May 1893 in Evansville, IN. After the death of her husband James in 1853, Nancy married Henry Weathers and they had three children.
