SE Clarkson Hardware Firm President, Dies

Samuel Edwin Clarkson Sr, president of Oklahoma City Hardware Co. died Sunday in his home, 1000 NW 20. He was 76. He had been prominent in city business affairs since 1901 when he and his two brothers-in-law, the late AW Boyd and the late WH Vic, founded the Oklahoma City Hardware Co., 25 E California.

Since suffering a stroke two years ago, he had been in semi-retirement. He was born in Annapolis, Mo and later lived in St Louis where his father had mercantile and saw milling interests. Still later, his parents moved to Fort Smith, Ark., when he was 12. After attending schools there, he became shipping clerk in his father's wholesale grocery concern. Later he became a salesman for his father before coming to Oklahoma City in 1901.

He was a charter member of Oklahoma club, a member of the Episcopal church, active in the Chamber of Commerce and Oklahoma Traffic association.

Services will be at 2 pm Thursday in Street & Draper funeral chapel. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Aubin, of the home; two sons, Albert L Clarkson, 111 NW 32, and SE Clarkson Jr, 624 NW 46 Terr; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
