Obituary of Lewis Swanda

Services for Lewis Swanda, 98, of Apache will be held at 10 am Friday August 3, 2001 at the Oak Street Church of Christ in Apache with Roy Young officiating. He was born July 27, 1903 at his home south of Carnegie, Indian Territory and passed away Wednesday August 1, 2001 in Carnegie. He married Dollie H Burton on September 7, 1924 at Carnegie. She preceded him in death July 27, 1996. He was also preceded in death by his son, Ronald; one daughter LaWana; great-grandaughter, Summer Swanda; five brothers and one sister. He bought a farm northwest of Apache in 1926 and moved there in 1927 and had lived there since, which made it the longest solely operated farm in the south Caddo County. He helped the county build the road in the area and was instrumental in getting electricity and telephones in that area. He was on the South Caddo County Soil and Water Conservation District Board for more than 40 years. He obtained all the easements for the flood control structures in the Wasita River watershed. He served on the Caddo County election board for many years, and the Broxton school board for over 30 years. survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Mary Joyce Swanda of Apache; three daughters and two sons-in-law; Lany Swanda, Lynda and Jag Sodhi, and Lanita and Mike Graham, all of Apache; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great granchildren; and two sisters, Bessie Dickenson of Carnegie and Blanch Hausam of Tulsa. Burial will be in the Carnegie Cemetery under the direction of Crews Funeral Home of Apache.
