  • Notes
    • Joseph Soper came to the United States at age 20 (about 1891). He lived in Chicago till 1893, staked a claim in the Cherokee Strip Run, probably South of Garber, Oklahoma. The claim was contested and he lost. He helped his father on his claim northwest of Garber, but one winter helped drive cattle to Dodge City Kansas - no pay, just food and shelter. Anna Dvoracek came to the United State about 1887. She rolled cigars in a New York City factory for awhile. She went to Omaha Nebraska and then Sumner county Kansas, living at Metcalf (Blackstone), a town that no longer exists. She made the 16 September 1893 Cherokee Strip Run, probably from Caldwell Kansas, with her father in a spring wagon. She staked and proved her claim east of Medford Oklahoma. This property has been in continuous family ownership, the present owner being Leon Soper. Joe and Anna lived on the farm east of Medford where all five of their children were born. In 1929 they moved nine miles east of Renfrow Oklahoma and lived there until Anna's death in 1935. Joe then bought a house in Medford, living there till his last illness when he returned to the old homestead by Medford, which was then the home of his son Lou.
