  • Notes
    • Susan Peachy Fry was born 16 July 1790, probably in Culpeper (later Madison) county Virginia, oldest child of Reuben Fry and Ann Slaughter. She married, in 1812, her cousin Matthew Hawes Maury, son of Rev Matthew Maury and his wife Elizabeth Walker. A few years earlier, her next younger sister Matilda Fry, had married her husband's brother, Francis Fontaine Maury. Matthew Maury and Susan Fry probably lived in Virginia at the beginning of their marriage, but the two Maury - Fry families removed to Bath county Kentucky about 1815. According to John Adair Richard's History of Bath County Kentucky, "Matthew Maury - a Virginian by birth, emigrating to this county around 1795. He was one of the prominent and influential citizens of the country in its early days." The 1795 emigration date is not likely. Family researchers indicate that he was employed as an ironworker at the Bourbon Furnace for a time, and then took up farming, his place being identified as "Maury Farm" on Roe's Run in Bath county Kentucky.

Several Fry family sources suggest that Matthew Maury and Susan Fry were the parents of six sons and two daughters: Lawrence Pike Maury, Matthew Henry Maury, Elizabeth Ann Maury, Reuben Thornton Maury, James Fontaine Maury, Mary Peachy Maury, John Philip Maury, and Joseph Fry Maury.

Susan Peachy Fry Maury died in 1857, and her husband, Matthew Hawes Mary, three years later in 1860. They are both buried in the Owingsville Cemetery, Owningsville, Bath county Kentucky.

March 28, 1861- Matthew Maury born Albemarle Co., Va. 1777; died Bath Co., Ky. Sept. 4, 1860; moved to Bath Co., Ky. 1815; joined MEC 1840.
